Q&A with Anne Veck
Q: Where do you go to look for inspiration?
A: These days we are spoiled for inspiration with content on social media. I'm an Instagram and Pinterest addict... but really inspiration is all around us, especially in nature etc.
Q: How do you keep your team motivated?
A: I prefer to positively motivate by saying thanks for good work, and by creating exciting artistic team opportunities as a reward. I also make sure everyone enjoys excellent pay and conditions.
Q: How have you learned from your mistakes?
A: By keeping to what I know i.e. hairdressing. I have learned to make sure you are trained in all the services you offer in your salon, so you are not over reliant on one member of staff because if they leave, you have a problem - especially if you have a small salon. If you have a bigger team, make sure skills are shared across the team.
Q: What advice would you give to someone starting a new hairdressing business?
A: Never stop learning. Life and business is a journey, not a destination. The success of my business is not negotiable, and you get back what you put in.
Q: What has been your biggest achievement?
A: There have been a few. Having my name above the salon door. My first Finals for BHA Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year, presenting my work at the Royal Albert Hall in the Alternative Hair Show for the first time, winning Revlon Professional Style Masters Global Award, winning BHA Southern Hairdresser of the Year and AIPP Best Photo in 2016. 2016 was my big year!
