Fair play on pay
Fighting for … fairness around wages
- The National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage to be increased more gradually and over a longer period of time to help businesses recover from the pandemic and protect jobs.
- Greater government focus on ‘black economy’ businesses who don’t pay the National Minimum Wage, rather than on ‘quick wins’ with employers who make small and genuine mistakes when calculating wages.
- A fairer system that enables employers to employ apprentices from any age groups. Employer to pay the apprenticeship NMW for the duration of the apprenticeship (not just the first year) and the government to pay the difference in NMW for the applicable age group.
