16 May 2016

From April 30th to May 3rd, 26 members of the hairdressing industry ventured to Mallorca to test their endurance and raise much-needed funds to help hairdressers in need on the 2016 HABB Cycle Challenge.

The intrepid group, made up of hair salon owners, hairdressers and professionals working for businesses in the industry, cycled up to 250km of mountainous terrain over two and a half days. Taking on a cycle ride in Mallorca on the May bank holiday weekend, the cyclists may have expected sunny conditions. Instead they battled on through a day of torrential downpours to complete the ride. Nevertheless all agreed it was a highly enjoyable trip with highlights that included a lovely lunch in the old town square in the picturesque village of Petra, the satisfaction of conquering the 7.5k assent of Lluc and of course the relaxation and recuperation at the luxurious Pollentia Club Resort.

Teresa Frise, HABB manager says:

“This year’s HABB Cycle Challenge was a huge success, the cycling company were amazing and it was so humbling to see all the cyclists putting on a brave face and pushing themselves to complete the course – a huge thank you to all who took part and raised much needed funds for our beneficiaries”

A special mention goes to Jackie Mathis of JM Hairdressing, who broke her collarbone whilst training for the bike ride and had an operation to repair it two days before the trip; as well as and her husband Terry who valiantly stepped in for her.

The HABB Cycle Challenge is an essential part of the HABB fundraising calendar. There have already been some phenomenal fundraising efforts and cyclists now have until July to donate their sponsorship money.
