NHBF wins Best communication during covid-19

The NHBF took the award for Best communication during COVID-19 at the Covid Response Awards. Taking place on the 25 November 2021, The Kia Oval, London, the Covid Response awards saluted and payed tribute to the resilience, resourcefulness and tenacity that have been the hallmark of corporate and non-commercial organisations response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Covid Response Awards were judged independently by an esteemed panel of industry CEOs from across a wide range of market sectors.

Here’s what the judges said about the NHBF’s entry:

"Demonstrated leadership within the hair, beauty and barbering industry. Agile in providing support to members and clarity of advice. Great use of social. Important impact on government policy."
"Well written entry, really clear about what needed to be done, what they did and the impact the coms had. They responded really quickly, engaged with their very disparate membership and lobbied government. Fantastic job."
"This for me is a great example of managing a crisis, grounded communications plan which was able to inform, influence and gain credibility at a government level."
"A submission that demonstrates how the PR and Marketing team helped its members access financial support to keep the industry afloat."

Reporting coronavirus (COVID-19) grants and support payments

If you received a payment to support you during COVID-19, you may need to report this on your tax return if you are:

  • self-employed
  • in a partnership
  • a business

Grants and payments from schemes to support businesses and self-employed individuals during coronavirus (COVID-19) are taxable.
If you operate as a business, find out if you need to include a COVID-19 grant or support payment on your tax return.

Single-use plastic consultation

The Government is asking for views on how to reduce single-use plastics in England, via a new consultation.

The 25 Year Environment Plan, published in January 2018, outlines the steps the Government will take to achieve that, including eliminating avoidable plastic waste by 2042.

The Consultation is on proposals to ban commonly littered single-use plastic items.
