The 2018 Step Up & SHINE winner, Nicola Hamm has continued to reap the rewards of winning the prestigious industry competition by attending a bleaching course at the renowned Not Another Academy. Nicola was able to broaden her knowledge of bleaching at the training centre which was set up by Not Another Salon to meet the demand of requests from around the world to learn the techniques that the salon is so well-known for.
With bleaching being an ongoing popular hair trend, the talented stylist who works at Escape Hair Lounge in Portsmouth enhanced her bleaching skills by learning more about the process and the levels of lift used to create different tones. Nicola was also able gain advice on managing clients who have unrealistic expectations as well as how to best deal with damaged hair and complaints.
Bleaching is a trend that’s here to stay so I know that I will be putting my new skills to the test for a long time to come
Nicola commented: “I’ve only ever had basic bleaching training in the past so being able to delve into the process that my clients are asking for more and more frequently was fantastic. I gained so much confidence from attending the course - from the client consultation stage to the actual application. Bleaching is a trend that’s here to stay so I know that I will be putting my new skills to the test for a long time to come.”
Step Up & SHINE is in its fifth year, and was launched in honour of industry legend, Christofer Mann to nurture one passionate stylist so they can enhance and develop in their career. The prize for winning the prestigious industry competition, which is jointly run by the NHBF and the Fellowship, was a year-long bespoke educational training programme.
