Clive Boon
The Owner of Boons, Retford
About me
I am the third generation of hairdressers in my family business, which is based in Retford, Nottinghamshire. The business was established in 1928, and many changes have occurred over these years and decades.
I received my foundation hairdressing training from my father, going on to complete my City and Guilds after this. I trained at Vidal Sassoon’s, where I lived in a squat in Bethnal Green, so that I could afford to live in London on my wage at the time.
I then trained at The Ginger Group Academy on King’s Road.
I was a Finalist for Eastern Hairdresser for BHA three times, being fortunate to win in 2007. I also won Most Wanted Look for Creative Head magazine and I have had the pleasure to work around the world doing hair shows and training events.
My whole life has centred around hairdressing.
Why I would like to be President and the skills I bring
It would be my privilege to give something back to an industry that has given me my passion and my life’s work. I feel that I can offer inspiration and support to the next generations of hairdressers as they grow and develop, particularly in these challenging social and economic times.
The skills I bring are my 46 years’ experience in the hairdressing industry as a hairdresser, businessman, educator and mentor. I am genuinely interested in listening to other people’s points of view and working as a team member.
I think that a willingness to share ideas and skills, with a view to continuing to improve and develop, is one of my key attributes. Despite my long service, I know that there is still much to learn and my energy and passion for hairdressing is as strong as when I first started out in the industry. Lastly, I would like to be President to honour my grand-father’s memory. He was South Yorkshire’s President for the National Hairdressing Federation from 1938.
