Lydia Wolfe
The Owner of Jack & the Wolfe, Lymington
About me
I joined the hair industry in 2011 and went on to co-found one of the UK’s most exciting independent salons. Jack & the Wolfe opened in 2019 with no outside investment, just a £15K budget—but a bold mission: to create an inclusive, design-led, and education-focused salon.
We turned an old clock shop into a creative hub that quickly made waves. By 2021, we’d expanded into a three-storey space and launched Jack & the Wolfe Education, now attracting international learners.
Our multi-channel model includes sustainable merch, sell-out masterclasses, and strong community roots. I balance hands-on creative work with strategy, mentoring, and brand development.
As an ambassador for Yuv—a pioneer in future-focused colour—I stay deeply connected to innovation and sustainability in hair. With over a decade of experience across salon growth, training, and storytelling, I bring a well-rounded, forward-thinking perspective that aligns with the NHBF’s mission to elevate and empower our industry.
Why I would like to be President and the skills I bring
I am a proud, active NHBF member and was recently invited to represent the Federation in a SalonEVO Instagram Live, where I spoke about the state of the industry and the importance of recognising talent through awards such as the Top 50 Hair Influencers at HairCon.
Having transitioned my salon from an employed to self-employed model, I’ve relied on NHBF guidance to ensure legal compliance and a fair transition for my team. I know how critical NHBF resources are during times of evolution, and this experience allows me to speak authentically on behalf of fellow members navigating change.
The President must embody trust, vision, and representation. I bring:
- First-hand experience of the challenges and opportunities salons face today – from recruitment and compliance to transformation and growth
- Diverse leadership – running a high-end salon and education company, managing employees and freelancers
- Governance and mentoring – strategic planning, team management, chairing meetings, brand development
I understand the responsibility of being a figurehead and advocate. Already familiar with media opportunities, I regularly contribute expert commentary. I would relish the chance to amplify the NHBF’s voice across our sector and wider industries, building stronger relationships with stakeholders, regulators, and future talent.
I would champion:
- Accessibility and diversity – ensuring the NHBF represents every professional, from city salons to freelancers
- Support for evolving business models – practical guidance for self-employment and hybrid transitions
- Elevated education and mentoring – for next-gen stylists and leaders, including mental health, business skills, and inclusivity
- Stronger community building – through accessible digital events and local roundtables
I am committed to strategic leadership, supporting the Chief Executive, and acting as a balanced, passionate voice for members. Together, we can make our industry stronger, more united, and future-read.
