The Owner of Eutopia, Glasgow
About me
Over the last 30 years I have been through every job in Hairdressing, working my way through the different positions to eventually become a Hair & Beauty Salon owner in 2011. Then after 4 years we opened our second salon, both of which are award winning. I have a team of around 18 between the two salons, with an age range of 16 to 74 and includes apprentices, stylists, therapists, and managers.
I dedicate some time to the government’s Help to Grow Scheme, which involves mentoring small to medium businesses. These can be from any sector and give an insight into the opportunities and struggles other businesses face.
I also work as a Freelance Educator, covering Scotland. This involves me traveling to different salons or working at studios, carrying out creative training and business building.

Why I would like to be President and the skills I bring
I have previously served a 3-year term on the NHBF board and in that time, I was part of the renumeration committee, recruitment committee, represented the NHBF on the Barber Council and attended the UK Government’s Low Pay Commission on two occasions. I loved my time on the board, it let me understand what kind of an impact I could have at a national level in the industry.
I have excellent leadership qualities and pride myself on my communication skills. Both of which are imperative to chairing a meeting. But most of all, I would like to bridge the gap between the board, the NHBF team, and most importantly, the members. I want to improve communication and transparency.
I believe that every role involves personal development, and a role on the board should be no different. All new & existing members of the board would have a personal development review, identifying weaknesses, strengths, and opportunities. This would then allow us to improve and evolve, as we do within our team in our salons.
A strong board will help support the NHBF team and help grow and develop the National Hair & Beauty Federation, ensuring that it is taking the correct direction for its members. There are too many voices shouting at the government for help, we need to work with other industry experts and federations to have one collective voice.
We also need to start projecting a positive image of the industry. There is far too much negativity out there. With our resilience and creative thinking, we will come through this, stronger than ever! I have been through everything you have been through in the last 5 years; I understand your concerns & fears; I understand the industry and what challenges we all face together.
