Caroline Larissey, Chief Executive of the NHBF, attended the Apprenticeship All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) meeting today at Westminster, chaired by MP Toby Perkins.

The session focused on England’s industrial strategy and skills development, with key presentations from Skills England representatives Phil Smith CBE, Chair, and Tessa Griffiths CBE, Chief Executive Officer.

Skills England, which was established in shadow form in July 2024 and is now fully operational, is focused on aligning the skills system with the government’s Industrial Strategy. The organisation was created to address skills gaps and ensure a more strategic approach to skills development across England.

The discussions highlighted the significant challenges ahead for the organisation and the numerous strategic decisions that need to be made in the coming months.

The importance of ensuring the personal care sector remains a key priority within Skills England’s framework was emphasised as crucial for the NHBF’s ongoing advocacy efforts.

 The NHBF will be following up with key attendees at the main meeting to discuss support needed for hair and beauty apprenticeships.

Caroline Larissey commented:

“Today’s discussion reinforced the vital importance of ensuring hair and beauty apprenticeships are properly represented in Skills England’s strategic planning. Our sector provides essential services to communities across the country, and we need the right support structures and funding in place to develop the skilled workforce of the future.”
