NHBF State of Industry survey shows return to positivity

Despite the challenging economic climate with double-digit inflation, the latest National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) quarterly survey demonstrates a return by the industry to the positivity that we previously saw in spring/summer 2022.

More businesses have reported making a small or good profit (43%); 38% of businesses are breaking even, with fewer businesses (19%) making a small or substantial loss.

The general trend towards increasing prices is slowing. Over the previous three months, 64% of businesses raised their prices. A further 51% will do so over the next three months.

Updated guidance on asbestos

As part of its campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched two new online resources, including an asbestos awareness quiz and a video of a webinar held in partnership with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Middlesex University is asking people to participate in a major new study into workplace support for new and expecting parents working in SMEs. You will need to be available to participate in interviews and focus groups and you will be given a shopping voucher in exchange for your participation.

Together for Retail: A Wales Retail Forum Action Plan

The Welsh Government has released the publication of the Retail Action Plan, "Together for Retail"setting out actions against retail priorities.

The Action Plan builds upon the Retail Forum's Shared Strategic Vision for the Retail Sector, launched in 2022 and the insightful 'Raising the Bar' report produced by the Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee. It sets out a range of coherent, realistic and stretching actions under each of the three core pillars identified by the Retail Forum as priority areas: people, place, and resilience.
