The NHBF National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) through August and September is organising a programme of MPs visits to salons across the UK. This provides an opportunity for MPs, legislators, and decision makers to:

  • Meet salon owners and employees direct to discuss the challenges of Covid-19 over the last year and their feedback on the impact of any Government support received
  • Discuss areas where the UK and Devolved Governments (as applicable) could provide further support in the future eg through further support for apprenticeships or reform of business rates.

Peter Dowd MP visited local salon Glam Rock Studios recently as part of a programme of meetings in August/September organised by the NHBF.

Peter Dowd MP met with salon staff and discussed a range of issues including the challenges of Covid-19 over the last year, issues around reopening, the business environment in Bootle and government support.

Peter Dowd MP, says: “It was great to meet local salon owner Stephanie Lavery and to hear from the team about the challenges facing this key sector in Bootle as they work to return to a more recognisable business environment. The hair & beauty sector has been heavily affected by the pandemic. A number of issues raised will inform our work in Parliament, particularly the many self-employed people in the industry who have been mainly left to look after themselves and I will be pushing for more support from the Government to ensure beauty salons do not experience any further disruption to day-to-day operations".
Local salon owner, Stephanie Lavery says: “Myself and my team at Glam Rock Studios had the absolute pleasure of meeting with our MP Peter Dowd to talk about our time as a business, coming out of the pandemic. We had such a good chat, he loved our scouse humour, our choccy biscuits and our good old brew! I can honestly say that I’m proud to call him our MP and they are quite clearly trying their best to help!”
