The NHBF (National Hair & Beauty Federation) began life as the NHF – the National Hairdressers’ Federation.
The NHF was formed in 1942 when the National Federation of Hairdressers and the Northern Counties Hairdressers’ Federation merged.
In January 1958, the London and Provincial Hairdressers’ Association also became part of the NHF. This meant that the NHF became the UK’s largest salon trade association.
In October 2018, the NHF unveiled a new sister trade association, the National Beauty Federation (NBF) and became known as the NHF/NBF. This move built on the organisation’s long-established links with the UK beauty industry. In 2019, Members agreed that the NHF/NBF should become the NHBF, standing for the National Hair & Beauty Federation.
The NHBF now has over 5,000 Members including hair salons, beauty salons, barbershops and self-employed chair, space and room renters. It is the UK’s largest trade body for the hair, beauty and barbering industries.
